Something I had to Say

Contributed by Onslaught on Tuesday, 4th April 2006 @ 08:47:53 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

I once had something to prove,
It was a matter of life and death,
To escape the bitter loneliness
And to rise to greatness,
To find the cause of my angst
And to return to my origins
In a land so far away,
To be overwhelmed by this feeling
Of a coming of age,
Surrounded by sights so grand
Foreign but somehow familiar
Lost in eternal memories
From long ago

I once had something to prove,
And it was a matter of life and death,
To escape the bitter loneliness
So the greatness buried deep
Was awakened and compelled to come out
In a cascading eruption of thought and imagery
Once Breathtaking and overwhelming
That all soon went away,
I no longer had a reason to prove a thing,
And no one to prove it to,
So I’m thinking,
What if chemicals are alive?

Necessity had once brought out
Something so wonderful in me,
But now its all but faded away,
Once something brighter than the sun
But now just a cloud in the sky

So gray

I found this powerful and compelling. You've written it in a way that is accessible, and I find myself identifying in my own fashion. There are times I look back on and say, I was better then. I was more inspired to be and do, and it was brought out by, aye, love in part, and also I think that I had just started to really tackle adulthood. Life demanded it from me, and thus I responded. I've been looking back recently, wondering where all that went.

But at the same time... I think that went into the pot, so to speak, was stirred, and became part of who I am. I think there just might be a returning to that kind of power and inspiration, once I learn how to reach that part of my spirit. All is not lost, I'm convinced of it, for I think that part of me is still there, surprising me with thoughts and emotions that are unexpected. I think you have it in you, too. Time will tell. Fight on, and bravo for this piece.
