A World Unto Myself

Contributed by spike on Monday, 3rd April 2006 @ 07:25:57 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

I am continents and landscapes,
Vast mountain ranges populated
With life immeasurable
That crawl and feed and burrow
Upon the terrain of my skin,
The recesses of my ears.

And below the surface,
A plethora of living things
Species and generations
Inhabiting every nook and darkest cranny
Fight and live and die and breed
What is their life in mine
Some in union
others peacefully but benign,
And everywhere, the treachery of assassins.

I am one, and I am the many,
The parts intricate to the whole
The whole made greater by its parts
Layers upon layers of impulse and movement
Ingestion, digestion, excretion
I am a graveyard, I am a delivery ward,
Procreation, evolution, extinction.

Across the oceans of my eyes,
Strange creatures, majestic and bountiful
Swim the deep abyss of my tears
Framed against the bright canvas of the sky
My blood, raging rivers
Traversing the communities of the limbs,
Of the extremities and inner territories.

We are symbiosis in genesis and thanatos,
So much multiplicity, converging
To become a singularity
Aloof to the elegant design,
That allows the blind genome
To gaze in wonder upon the stars,
Yet barely glimpse the world within.

made me think of the saying.

No man is an island.

We are all a part of the whole.

Great work once again Spike.

Seldom does an old cowboy poet use the word superb, but I have no choice. This poem is SUPERB! I know where I'm goin' the rest of the morning to read, rate 'n' comment. Might be learnin' a whole lot from you about writin' poetry. Or just enjoy your mastery!

You've energized my realization of the miracle of each of us with the wonderfully woven combination of words describing the "landscape" of our being. Thank you.

*assumes complete monotone voice* . . . you shall be assimilated -- resistance is futile . . .

*falls on the floor in hysterics*
lol sorry mate . . . couldn't resist!

Oh gosh . . . Okay. This piece. Wow! What an impressive, undaunted outpouring.
You, my friend, never fail to amaze. The imagery here, alone would be enough,
but the message, the thought . . .the complete introspectiveness of this write
astounds me beyond comment!! Honestly, S, I am stunned. I have read this over
and over and still stare blankly at my monitor screen, almost screaming at it, for
the words. The impossible words to impart just what this says to me. How it
possesses a piece of my soul. We are so much more than we seem . . . INDEED!!

~Breezy
(who must think on this some more . . . you have given me much food for thought, this night)

Your piece is quite amazing. I must say that as I read your poem i realise how small i am in the universe and it's complexities and i have a great wonder for all that i can not see or understand. Great write.
