A SONS JOURNEY

Topic: FamilyPoems

MUM, MY HANDS ARE DIRTY CAN YOU WASH THEM PLEASE
THIS IS WHAT YOU ASKED ME WHEN YOU WERE ONLY THREE
MUM YOU LOOK SO BEAUTIFUL AS I WALKED OUT THE DOOR
THIS IS WHAT YOU TOLD ME WHEN YOU WERE ONLY FOUR

THE MOTHERS DAY LUNCHEON WAS AT ELEVEN
WHEN YOU WERE ONLY ABOUT SEVEN
YOU HAD SET THE TABLE WITH FLOWERS
AND IT CERTAINLY MUST HAVE TAKEN HOURS

YOU GREW SO QUICKLY BEFORE I KNEW
YOU WERE EIGHTEEN AND OFF IN THE BLUE
LIFE YOU FOUND WAS A NOT A LARK
THE NEXT FOUR YEARS WERE IN THE DARK

THEN ONE DAY WE MADE A DEAL
AND THIS WOULD END YOUR BORING SURREAL
GOING BACK TO SCHOOL WAS A BIG CHORE
AFTER ALL YOUR NEARLY TWENTY FOUR

NOW YOU ARE HEADING TO TWENTY FIVE
YOU HAVE SUDDENLY DISCOVERED YOU ARE ALIVE
DANCING, SINGING, CLASSES AND GIRLFRIEND
THIS IS THE BEGINNING AND NOT THE END

I AM PROUD OF YOU MY FIRST BORN SON
OF ALL YOUR TRIALS YOU HAVE NEARLY WON
YOU WILL HANDLE NOW WHAT COMES YOUR WAY
AS YOU STAND AT LIFES GREAT OPEN DOORWAY

LOVE MUM

I've a;ways believed pride in oneself is a bad thing.

But pride in ones children you just can't beat it.

Sounds like you've raised a goodun!

Beautiful writing.

J.
