The muffled whirring
of the coffee maker
Set me stirring
from my peaceful slumber
Gentle wafts of aroma seep
into my nostrils
Thoughts of you, mine to keep
like little tendrils
wrapped in my mind
Memories of last night refined
by a secret smile
Morning sunshine filtered through
into the kitchen, the coffee you brewed
lifted to the lips
A kiss of sweetness
taken in small sips
Dosages of your love
Memories, mere memories
Cold, I hug my knees
No one to hold
Gone, your warmth and inviting scents
Now the coffee left bitter and cold

This is a short poem that speaks volumes and sometimes brevity is an art. |
