Me, Myself & the Other One

Contributed by spike on Thursday, 23rd March 2006 @ 05:32:26 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

In lonely times,
When holding my own hand
Is no longer reassuring
Or talking to myself a conversation,
I keep myself
Enveloped in activities,
So that I am
Crowded with minutes,
Surrounded by thoughts

(Ruminating, always ruminating)

I am my own [and only] best company, through

1.The dry spells
2.The alone days
3.The empty months
4.The sparse years

(lists seem to help)

Long after the tv has become
A monotonous companion,
The dog a dirt mound of memories
And the radio mere
Background static to existence,
I revel in the quiet familiarity of the self
The rich tapestry of inne-

QUIET YOU, I'M TALKING!

-Sometimes I can’t get a word in edgewise……

every good boy deserves friends
every good boy deserves friends
evry god boy desrvs fiends
all work and no poems makes Spike a bad boy
bad boy
mad boy
mad
ma

This is a really great poem! I very much enjoyed it.

Absolutely true: being on your own too much isn't good. When there's no one to talk to but yourself... I know what you're talking about...

I am really impressed with this. I'm not exactly sure I can understand why though, or even explain it.

I love the words, and the style and the way the lines add up, and I think it is wonderfully creative, but I really just love the poem as a whole. Just all of it all added up together make this a really great poem.

Good write,
*hugs*

Just spendid......
The pic and the words worked well together. Loneliness, isnt a good thing. We all need someone or thing, to be in the life. Open your eyes, maybe they will see...... Again great post.

The ironic thing is I was thinking this morning I must occupy my time more.
So this poem came just at the right time.

The devil finds work for idle hands to do sprung to mind.

When I get bored I head into self destructiveness binge drinking, gambling etc...

Name a vice I've probably got it or had it lol!

I can bloody well identify with this so well!

J.

I marvel at the dramatic conversation with the three lonely entities in this poem. I marvel at the effect of the dwindling sense of reason of the main character: Spike. I just marvel at reading masters!

OMIGOSH S, . . . that part -- right up there, found a chuckle escape
my throat, if only because I relate. And relate OH! so damn well!!

Being alone has it's advantages, (for one, this fine example of
free verse!). I know of what you speak, though. And this
has captured it completely! Brilliant work. My hat is off to you!

~Breezy
p.s. LOVING the title too!! Positively perfect!

~*Spike*~ you’ve really personified aloneness and taken it to a whole different dimension of poetry classification.

Not meaning to brag, most of my life I’ve never felt alone; that is until I was delivered from a 5-years boot-camp of isolated HELL. Sort of like coming out of Egypt, I couldn’t seem to find my place and settle.

Nowadays with so many dysfunctional families, and members relocating for better job moves, it’s easy to become isolated or alone in the world’s jungle.

You’ve captured my heart with this methodical oceanic view, expressing humanity’s plight (from time to time) as well. This dreaded apathy of our unsympathetic society; that is, unless one fits their mould and won’t rock the proverbial ‘boat’ too much.

As Ken Moore said, I too “marvel at the dramatic conversation with the three lonely entities in this poem.” Hence, who couldn’t love this masterful muse; sort of like a poetry collage with a bit of unusual dramatics to highlight a relevant theme and a most enjoyable write.

Regards,
~Lilly-Quill
