I watched you grow
Smiles and tears
Rosy cheeks
Painted toes
Paper hearts
Cabbage patch kids
To Barbi dolls
Teen years a voice parched
Boys came boys went
Seemed you knew everthing
All answers you had within
Days I had anger pent
Smiles lingered
But a while
Days father doesn't understand
Our tears mingled
Mine for you
yours because of me
What does a father know
Only what he thinks is true
A daughter is fear
Knowing all answers
A daughter is love
Held in smiles and tears
Then a day and daughter is gone
From toddler to high heels
A daughter is woman
Love and pride the new song
Over a long while
Father and daughter
A bond not to be broken
Forgotten any tears
With love father smiles
To Mary Ann

This is beautiful. I only have sons, so I could only relate to your poem by thinking of me as a daughter growing up, and your poem gave me memories of me growing up from a small little barbie doll person to big bears on a stick in the store. I loved your poem. lol, my mother and I made cabbage patch dolls for my sons lol. Certificate of birth too. The games and toys they had as a child they still have, all except for a few dolls that I keep on my sofa. lol. The Lord gave me two wonderful daughter-in-laws. And two granddaughters, I watch them as they grow, and see their daddy's tears and smiles.
