as i sit here and think to myself,
i hear nothing but silence.
its all around, no one around, no one to see
i sit alone and think about a better life.
wondering could it ever be.
during the silence i hear one voice calling,
its the call of death
should i follow
should i run
my mind starts to race
trying to make it to the finish
something is holding me back
the thing i hate the most awaits me
i slip back into silence and let the voice
come to me
now there is an eternity of silence.

The author is a person with whom I can identify with...or at least the mood the author was in during this poem's writing is one that takes after my own heart. A brooder...and somewhat of a fatalist. But there is something I would like to comment here...death is inevitable...there is no following or running....it is not a debate of what should be done...death just comes. The analogy of silence to death is quite good....but I would rather see silence as the serenity brought by death. Death itself...is a noisy and tormenting process....even to die in your sleep would bring unspeakable havoc upon the soul....though we would see it as a person dying "peacefully in his or her sleep". The soul would be dragged kicking and screaming from his or her mortal shell. Despite my two cents worth of comments I still rather like the poem in general...again...something that is after my own heart. |
