Across The Hall

Across the hall,
He jokes with his friends.
He leans on a locker,
His pride he defends.
Across the hall
He's so laid back and free.
But solid and firm
Like an old oak tree.
From his chestnut eyes,
Down to his shoes my gaze falls.
I admire him from afar,
All the way across the hall.
My voice clear to my ear.
Playful yet deep.
But across the hall
Is where my group keeps.
I'm tempted to go over,
Only three steps, maybe four.
But across the hall,
Is just a bit too far.
