The Oak

Contributed by thesinner on Friday, 10th March 2006 @ 09:43:59 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

I lay under the tree,
as I've done so many times before.
And I watch as the wind stirs the leaves into an endless dance.
I study the confusion of branches,
and watch as the setting sun emblazons the turning leaves.

This ageless oak stands majestically in defiance of developement.
It grows just outside the castle walls,
the castle itself crumbling before my eyes,
the moss desperately trying to hold together,
what time is determined to tear apart.

The tree itself,as old as the hills,
knows all my secrets.
I've lost count of how many times I've whispered
my thoughts into it's knarled bark,
seeking answers.
then I watched as the branches swayed in response.
Sometimes, mirroring my mood, gentle and peaceful
and at times frantic with despair or rage,
and often it would remain still,
in muted silence as it drank my tears,
as I lay at it's feet.

So much a part of me.
How many years will you stand there,
guarding the castle walls and listening to my thoughts?
I watch,
and as the new moon rises through it's branches,
I see my answer.

Like the northern lights, nature captures the moods of those who tune in. Ancient wisdom holds answers to those who are still enough. Well done, I am glad to see the wails of despair have given to hope.
