Looks May Be Deceiving

One day I opened my eyes
And saw
That my knight in shining armor
Turned out to be
A jerk in aluminum foil,
The star I wished upon every night
Turned out to be
A light on a distant tower,
The shimmering necklace from my 'best friend'
Turned out to be
A toy from the dollar store,
The Converse shoes I was finally receiving
Turned out to be
Chuck Taylor imitations,
And the Valentine's on my locker
Turned out to be
For the locker next to mine.
One day I opened my eyes
And saw a new side to my life.
ONe day I opened my eyes
And saw reality.
