A black cat crossed his path
where a leaf had fallen from a tree.
O how he feared this little leaf
and all it would begat.
It signalled the winds of change
to begin her assault on life.
A fish swam by
through the light that reflected off the water,
he fell in love,
and it replenished his belief
that spring would come once again.

There's a lot woven into this short work, and I like the fact that you don't seem overly concerned with exposing your message, thus letting it emerge gracefully on its own. I especially like the lines
It signalled the winds of change
to begin her assault on life.
A powerful way of putting it. Excellent work.
