I shot a man
full of green eggs and ham
and he bled Dr. Seuss
in pints.
The Sandman came
and asked, “Why don’t you sleep?”
I said I got a lotta
things on my mind.
“Child,” he said,
“What can possibly be wrong?
You’ve not seen even half
of your days.”
I said, “Old man,
I’ve seen more than you’ll see,
and I see it every time
I lay down to sleep.”
“For while there are many
sunsets you’ve known,
I walk through your storybook end
ings alone.
