Sundown
Reminiscing on the day’s events
Week’s events
Year’s events
This life hasn’t been so bad
Take off my boots and bend my toes
Sitting
Rocking
Thinking
Stretch out my legs and take another sip
At ease
Eyeing the crowded horizon
Minutes turn to hours
The cool night’s breeze hits my face
Feeling alright
Take one more pull off this cigarette
Breathe deep
Sundown
I arise
In order to retire for the night
Leaving the porch
Entering the house
The evening’s last drag seems to soothe my soul
Walking past a mirror
I turn
Smile
Knowing my strengths
My weaknesses
Understanding myself
Ascending the stairs
I peer down at my hands
Visibly strong
But it’s only an illusion
They’re not strong enough
For they allowed her to slip right through my grasp
A few memories stir
No true emotions felt
Too tired
Too much time spent already
Retiring to my bed
Thoughts of tomorrow
Another day’s work
Working hard for you
And yet
I still don’t know who you are
Sunrise
