Nostalgic

This old, country road before me,
Stretches far into my past,
And I know its every stretch and curve,
Though many years have passed.
I look upon the old homestead,
And see it hasn’t lost its charm.
Smiling, I remember the good times,
From when I lived upon this farm.
More memories come flooding back,
Carried, on the scent of fresh mowed hay,
Like my mother in her garden,
Working on a warm spring day.
Of going out to pick berries,
Late in the month of June,
Or hauling grain to the elevator,
Underneath a big ol’ harvest moon.
Dressing warm on winter days,
To go skating on the pond,
Or nighttime sleigh rides, with a girl,
Of whom I was extremely fond.
I know that I can’t stay here,
But I’m still longing to remain,
As I walk along the fence line,
Through the fields of golden grain.
Suddenly, I realize a piece of me is always here,
Where ever else it is I roam,
Kept within the happy memories,
Of my Alberta, country home.

I can relate to this poem. I used to live on an acreage in the country, and that to me will allways be home. I miss it very much!! Alberta country is beautiful!!
