Daddy, Daddy -- Oh please look at me
Daddy, Oh Daddy -- Oh, can't you see
I'm new to this world and a little afraid
Just hold me tight and please, don't let your love fade
I know you think I only cry, eat and sleep
But as you hold me, there's a peace that runs deep
Your eyes they just twinkle at me all the while
Watch me, Dear Daddy, See, I just learned to smile
The crying will subside a bit day by day
And just you wait -- someday I WILL learn to play
Daddy, Daddy --Oh please look at me
Daddy, Oh Daddy -- Oh, can't you see
Daddy, I've been waiting! I'm glad you're home at last
I rolled over by myself and Mommy just laughed
Now I'm growing stronger -- oh yes, it's very true
I can sit up and watch for you coming home, too!
Is that you, Daddy, coming home, that I hear
I can now crawl to you! Do I hear you cheer???
I pulled myself up and actually stood tall
I want to let go; I'm afraid I might fall
Daddy, Daddy -- Oh please look at me
Daddy, Oh Daddy -- Oh, can't you see
Oh look--I did it--I actually took a step
Geeee, what's next in life? This walking fills me with pep
Now I can quickly run around from here to there
Big brother is fun and I'm glad he really cares
I'm now ready for school, I hear it is fun
My big brother says it was when he begun!
Gee! Lots of recesses and lots of new friends
Reading and writing and learning money spends
Daddy, Daddy -- Oh please look at me
Daddy, Oh Daddy -- Oh, can't you see
I love you, Daddy, for taking good care of me
While I sure grew up so fast, you were there, you see
I may have argued with you -- but please stick around
There's no better buddy or friend that has been found
You were there when I cried, and with me when I was sick
And when I learned to drive, you taught me to drive a stick
You even cautioned me to look for a girl like my Mom
Any other type would be like dating a dumb bomb
Daddy, Daddy -- Oh please look at me
Daddy, Oh Daddy -- Oh, can't you see
You've been so much a part of my everyday life
Now I think I am ready to make someone my wife
I want to be soooo very much like you were to me
Now that I've grown to a man -- soon a daddy to be
There still is just one more thing I want to thank you for
And that is for you showing me how to love my Lord
You taught me to pray and depend on Him for all things
And now, God, I thank you for my Dad! He's my blessing!

yes, we depend on our parents. And God too. Baby steps.. I do not remember my first baby steps, but I do remember my first baby steps becoming a christian. Linda, yes, thank you. I also taught mine, there were tough times yes. my heart sunk many times. then as my sons grew older, I saw how they walked. Both my sons are very much christians. Your poem makes me smile.. I love how you wrote it step by step. Even though my daughter in laws do not look like me, there are several traits that they have that are similar to mine. And my sons both have traits and actions of their father in heaven, God in heaven, and their step daddy. movement, speech, life style, and the love for all people in Gods name. Halleluiah for this poem.
Hugs, raquelLeah |
