The Night Sky

I live in the sticks,
where there are no street lamps
to hide the night sky.
One can see the stars
twinkle overhead in a display
no fire works can contest.
And the moon shines ever full.
Illuminating all so that one can see,
not quite so good as day,
but see nevertheless.
In the dead of night
there is no sound but the
distant drone of insects
and the world seems to stand still.
Nothing moves and there is
only the night sky.
The swirling thoughts in my head
are my only companions
as I gaze heavenward,
pondering and wondering of places
far and unknown and of
dreams yet to be realized and
dreams that never will.
I live in the sticks.
And I look to the night sky.

Very nice visual and auditory imagery. I experienced the same thing when I moved to a small island away from the big city. It was so dark and so quiet at night, I couldn't get to sleep.
