Who Are you?

Contributed by purplestary on Monday, 27th February 2006 @ 09:51:50 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

who are you?

Are you the one sitting behind the locked door
with a blade in hand carving lines in your arm?
-knowing there is another way-
-not quit sure what way that is-
Are you the regular Joe or Jane working hard
in your dead end job to put food on the table?
-wanting so much more for yourself-
-yet, doing nothing about it.-
Are you the rich neighbor with a four car garage
hiding the truth behind your painted on grin?
-knowing that it is all for show-
-when truthfully your life is hell-
Are you the non comformist dressed all in black
trying so hard to be different just like your best friend?
-knowing deep down that we are all the same-
-in the end how you dress will be unimportant-
Are you the over-whelmed soccer mom
staying busy enough to hide from the world?
-knowing your piling it on too thick-
-you know when they get older they will hate you-
Are you the stay at home mom
over protective of your children and family?
-knowing you should not run a prison-
-yet far too scared to let go of your ways.-

who are you? what do you do?
can you find the in between?
my hope of life is so simple
i wish to be better then the ones before
i do not want to be lazy
but i want to know where to draw the line
i do not want to drive my child
to being that person behind the locked door
carving lines into his or her arm.
I would also love to live a comfortable life
but i would like a smile that rings true
and just like every person who will read this
i wish to be different from everyone else
but i know it is not about my cloths
or how thick my eyeliner is....

To each his or her own
we are all somebody
put under a certain label
judged and critisized

Or sitting on the receiving end
being shaped and molded
into being like the ones before us
being beaten and abused
through words
through violence
through silence
too much of one thing or another
or not enough of what is needed most.

despite what we are told
too much love can kill us all
suffication is a cause of death
your eyes pop out
your lips turn blue,
and then your toe is taged....

WoW a real thought provoking piece of poetry. You've done a great job with this write. The poem speaks out aloud. So much truth within the lines. A very well penned and detailed write. Well done.

Here I am behind my door and along comes a poem like this. How right you are I think many of us put on another face when we step outside with our peers.
You did a good job writing this.
Keep it up.

I love this topic, in fact a lot of my writing is based on that central theme but this eloquently expresses what I think anyone would want to say. My favorite lines were at the beginning:
"are you the one sitting behind the locked door
with a blade in hand carving lines in your arm" That really draws the reader in and no offense I swear, it seems to be a very trendy topic. I've used it myself a lot lately cause I know someone who's done it before. Anyway sorry to write so much. This was a great poem.

This is like a top of the mountain experience..the Billy Jack of having the inner wisdoms to come down and challenge its people.
The live and let live we each have to accept as life experiences life gives us all.
I have learned through time that no one can make decisions for another no matter how much protection we profess to offer.
We each learn from those experiences...good or bad....and then we can learn the lessons we require to be who we chose to be.
Yet another wisdom you teach here and to take ones choice yes can lead them to a sense of not being here at all......you my friend are wonderful and your work has been a great journey for me. Thank you always!

won't let one ignore this writting. powerful but most of all heartbreakingly thruthful. You are
a magnificent writter with a most provacitive
style that merely keeps poking at the reader with a compelling curiousity . . .
