Hanging On To Nothing

Contributed by EverlastingDawn on Saturday, 18th February 2006 @ 06:51:41 AM in AEST
Topic: FriendshipPoetry

Your happy smile lights up my day
And all the innocent games you play
I like you for your happiness of life
The fact your eyes always shine so bright
And you always think of what is right

I guess it‘s true that opposites attract
I need you to always keep smiling
So that it can soften my scowl
You can balance out my anger
And make things seem all right

But I know we can’t get along
You’re twisting words to make logic
Trying to make me understand
I hate that you want me to change
You see everything as black and white

I hate you because you laugh
At every single small thing
You are grating on my nerves
And you’re driving me insane

I hate you because you act like me
You force what you believe
We’re two sides of the same coin
And we’ll always fight for dominance
Trying to make me into you and you into me

I used to think that we would always be friends
And I know that you thought the same thing too
I used to think that I was finally done searching
But now I know I have a lot left to find
I used to think that I was falling in love
But now all that I can do is hate you

We are too different to be friends
But way too similar to not be
You are the drug and the antidote
And you’re all that I have left
