Growing Up

This is a place where the sidewalk
Ends, and life begins.
This is a place where you must always
Fight alone.
Where darkness trancends the innocence
Into ashes.
Where stop signs are torn from
Iron roots.
Where the streetlights are forever green,
Pushing us to a place of
No return.
Somtimes we go here, and we
Alwaya miss our days on
The sidewalk.
Where after thunderstorms,
The sun came out,
To kiss our days with joy.
But now we are here.
No roads to guide us,
Yet blind as we are, we still stumble
On some truth.
That though we may lose grip of a mother's touch,
We will clutch onto our own.
Taking ourselves along into
The darkness.
There we will build our own sidewalk,
Made from memories of what
We were taught.
A place where we can walk a thousand miles
Without a single crack.
Dreams are wonderful when they feel alive.
But somtimes we must look on, across the street.
A street unpaved....
There, we must find the strength
To continue our stride.

I'm never a person who likes poems that don't rhyme because not too many people can pull it off, I don't even dare to try it yet, I'm not at the skill level yet, but you are one of the only exceptions that I can read and actually like/enjoy. Nice Job again man...as always:
Keep it up.

I love it. It's poignant and passionate. It's all the places physically and metaphorically in which we must face ourselves and reallity as well as to explore our dreams and fantasies. It's a crossroads. At least that is the impression it gave me. Great write. |
