The Valentine Portrait

Contributed by Elizabeth_Dandy on Saturday, 11th February 2006 @ 01:58:34 PM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

Oh I painted him alright,
Young and saucy, my dear knight,
With his cocky Air Force hat
What a handsome Yorkshire lad!

I mixed oils of pink and blue
And some white titanium too
With a tinge of violet
Well spread out on the palette.

Everything was fine and fit
But my darling loathed to sit,
He handed me a photograph
To paint my restless, fidgety love.

Some features gave me trouble, yet
He was so proud, - for his portrait
Would shine on our saloon’s wall
With his bright smile - so genial.

“Accent - he said - the armpit fold,
And for the buttons use some gold”
“As background use a pinkish hue
This goes well with the navy-blue”!.

But now he left me all alone
While I his woolen jacket don,
With me is still my love’s portrait
And his woolen crochet hat.

See my Air Force Cherubim,
No other husband ever,- but him,
Whose portrait ever smiles at me,
My sole true love eternally.

Oh sweet portrait that does shine
Not solely on Valentine,
Beams at me from the blessed shore,
At all times and for ever evermore.

Ah! this portrait knows of love,
And it has love's perfecct proof,-
No other love does stand behind
To fill his spouses' soul and mind.

Angels bright and fair be pleased,
Perfect fine earmarks I had missed
Bring out hidden traits in him,
The features of a Cherubim
A Cherubim that smiles on me.
Without a canvas - blissfully!

In memory of my beloved husband Stephen

Thanks Emy. Actually I painted him 3 times, - but the one with the ine in Air Force Uniform hangs in the Salon and keeps smiling at me incessantly
My only husband forever more.
God enfold him in the cockles of His heart.
Elizabeth

Elizabeth, thank you kindly for sharing this poem, your life with your beloved. You are amazing. I know he is smiling at you. What you share is pure love and joy. My still life paintings were of landscapes, mountains, sea. I was not so great at serious portraiture. This poem is spellbinding. You have such magical skills, I am in awe of your most powerful and captivating poetry . Thank you for sharing. I have missed your messages.. Hope you are getting them. Raquel Leah

In heaven is man
A communion of saints
They welcomed him in
Duty on earth is done
Though many miss
Heaven he has won
In the Fathers glory
He rest
Given eternal bliss
Elizabeth he sees over you
Pations for you each
eternal day
Dear this is true
Pray a communion of
saints
Stephen is but one
An angel a wonderful
man
He sings he prays he chants
I believe he knows your
way
He awaits gleefuly
Knowing your duty to be
done
For heaven
Your valentine has won

I love the love you show
Elizabeth
Your love waits
Our Father sets your date
A beautiful tribute to
your Stephen
