I
The smile you brought
the evening of your coming
is a week of age this coming morning
yet it fills my room still
most sweetly and eloquently
and brings to my saddend mind
your gentleness strong as such
and breathing out of your now silent idealisim
II
Your hand stirred then;
delicate white petals in your lap
against your autumn-red leaf blouse.
III
Your gentleness disarmed me;
pointless my arrows fell
in the clear path of your gaze.
IV
You said little;
we broke from the net of words
the black forest of chosen language
free and familiar upon the bright strand
of our understanding;
happily and wise as only we can be
who demand nothing of each other;
we looked with eyes not in our heads
and were not dismayed.
V
The small truth you brought with your smile
grows strong roots in the crevices of my heart;
not now.. nor forever... can you escape into my forgetfullness;
not now or forever.. can memories of you be lost
in the trap of time:
as a flower in my mind...
you shall grow
and time is kind to flowers.
Billy

Billy,
again you captured my being with this write.
Exactly what I needed to read today.
your pen floats the universe and touches those who read ever so tenderly.
Delightful my friend!
hugssss

This brought such a beautiful and warm smile to my heart, my dear friend. Time is kind to those that bring beauty to the world also.
Much admiration,

"not now.. nor forever... can you escape into my forgetfullness"
What a powerful line that alone is, but in this piece, it is monumental !!
So lovingly beautiful and sweetly rapturous. As always, Billy, you
stir emotions of the heart and soul. What I have said of your talent
in the past rings so loud and true in this and of that opinion I shall
never relent! This was brilliant.

Your poem was written with much tenderness. Although ambiguous, I chose to see it as love for a child where memories never "escape into forgetfullness". |
