Ripples in the Still Waters of the Heart

Contributed by spike on Friday, 10th February 2006 @ 10:25:17 PM in AEST
Topic: DreamsandWishes

Lighter than air she brushes me,
A feathery stroke along my cheek
And as I draw that inward, shuddering breath
And reflexively reach a hand to my face,
I sense she has returned to this place.

But was she ever gone?
Sometimes the sun feels warmer to me
And I am sure, so sure,
That her light, a quanta or a beam
Has joined that solar stream.

And in the cacophony of the world,
Sometimes I’m certain I hear her voice
A familiar whisper, so delicate and fine,
That, as I tilt my head for the source
Disappears, as if its run its course.

I could think myself alone,
That souls fly back to their perch
Or don’t exist at all
That beauty fades into nothing,
And life is meaningless and small.

Yet in those lonely moments,
Unforgiving in their pain
When I ache to feel her warmth
Or run my fingers through her hair,
I am consoled to sense her near.

This.... this struck a chord so deeply within me that I haven't words enough to comment in any kind of proper way. Soul speak, this is... tender, moving, and so eloquently real.

Beautiful... just beautiful.

This is work in searing with emotional brilliance. I had a very comfortable visit in these words, and revisited them three times before I posted. I will definitely be looking for more of your work. Completely Impressive.

I am not a big fan of letting poems "marinate", especially for a period of time longer than a day or two. When poems marinate they take on a whole different flavor than the had initially. Just as when food marinates. The marinate may make it juicier, and a lot more tender.

But the verse is to me, supposed to be served as a raw cutlet straight from the skeleton of the soul. This is why this poem is so powerful. It's fresh not stale and marinated.

S~

Deep down, arresting and tender write. Wonderfully touching . . .
so much so that my own heart is stilled to hear her as well.
The last stanza is so truely beautiful, spike, I hardly have words
enough to convey how this moved me. I have felt this way.
You captured the moment flawlessly.

Before I make a comment I read the previous ones on your poems to avoid redundancy and hear common comments: awe, perfection, brilliant. All accolades to a master. You gift us. Keep it up. Oh. This poem is SUPERB.
