A golden sun blazes in a sapphire sky,
ruby Alabama clay coats our shoes
as we pluck the precious gems
from the jade vines.
Laughing, we work around the thorns;
We eat as much as we pick.
This is my heaven,
picking berries with my kin.
Dark, juicy fruit for many purposes.
Tart sweetness melting on the tongue,
a refreshing contrast to the humidity.
Here is where love dwells most pure;
my memory and my cherished gift
It cannot be taken, like my name.
The heat of the sun on my head,
the warmth of joy in my heart.

I have read that poem and can see the connection. I enjoyed the imagery. I am glad to finally find a decent poem on this site. |

What a great write. There is something about working out in the sunshine. My stepfather made home made wine. I always enjoyed cutting the grapes. Thanks for sharing, Peace, Laura |

A beautiful, nostalgic piece that called up similar memories from my long crystalized and buried store. Vivid, clear images enveloping a poem that says to me, so long as you remember, you are. Thanks for posting.
