Hiroshima: Tears In Heaven

Contributed by dthwlkr on Wednesday, 8th February 2006 @ 12:12:19 PM in AEST
Topic: war

In a war torn world, a far away city in the east,
The orange sun still rose, high above the quarreling sons of the earth.
Giving hope, showing that the dark of the black night shall soon pass,
It warms the hearts in a world where the hearts are not the red of life but the gray of the cold stone.

When a brother kills a brother,
When every living stands naked, raped of his sanity
The yellow sun still rises.

As a toddler plays, a mother feeds her infant, another sun rises in the sky,
But it is the sun of the craven, black as his heart
As it blots out the flame of life, the day turns evanescent
Orange flames erupt all around, the flames, they do the dance of death

As the destruction ends, white light breaches the veil of the synthetic dark
But alas, all is gray and barren below
The mother lays charred, beside her infant, still clutching her finger, though burnt to cinders
And the toddler who played lies not too far, her clothes ripped, her rosy cheeks, the purple of rotting flesh

As the sewers run red, miles away heartless men celebrate, their wine too red

Yet in the city far away the yellow sun rises!

Powerful write. War is cruel regardless of who's side you are on, it is always good to remember the past so that we don't repeat it. Peace is my prayer for the world, and for you too. Thanks for sharing this poem.

Sad, sickening, horrible war. Your write was a vivid reminder of what human beings do to one another. It makes me cry. I wish all peace, thank you for sharing such a heart-clenching write. Laura
