The Town

As darkness falls over the valley at night
The streetlights come on to preserve the gay light
Children rush home to sleep in their beds
Lie down upon them, lay down their sweet heads
The moon rises up, shines its flowering glow
Lets its light cover all in the village below
The stars twinkling brightly, be speckle the sky
Giving off wishes as in the old lullabies
Adults lock up their doors, they seal up their keep
They settle down for their long night of sleep
Quiet and peaceful as the police set down their guns
The town is as safe as the convents of nuns
Yet through the shadows of each dark alleyway
Creeps a stranger in black, a drifter they say
He prowls the streets, in his arduous search
Peers in the windows for something of worth
He passes the sleeping guards, propped up by a wall
Knowing that any where no one will call
He fumbles with keys, his lock pick wont work
For this one door he’s opening is as shady as murk
He opens the door and is blinded by light
The whiteness surrounds him and takes his whole life
His clothes left in a pile, one guard shuts the door
Sweeps up the rubbish, puts it in a pale on the floor
Another one lost, in the secrets of the room
For all those who enter are most certainly doomed
He guard smiles a little and whistles a lot
They never will reach this thing that they sought
No one can take if they’ve evilness planned
Against this towns people, against this towns land
The shield of this town that covers above
Is a protection we all have, the protection of love.
