He Whispered For My Ears Only

Contributed by SmileSkinDeep on Sunday, 5th February 2006 @ 11:14:09 AM in AEST
Topic: goodbyepoetry

“Goodbye”
He whispered for my ears only

His last word burned
As all the memories returned

Silently begging him to stay
Making no impression
Letting every word slip away
Ignoring my confession
As the sky turned melancholy gray
He took one look
Then walked away

His final expression
Dared me to breathe
The dulcet cinders
Made me twist in pain and wreathe
Barely anything still lingers
I have come to think
That he was never here
He only left me with blurred memories

Leaving me
All alone
Leaving me
With nothing but a gravestone
With all this hate
And these feelings I had outgrown
Leaving me
Completely disowned

So I sit
With a single final word
To life he had quit
After he broke under pressure
I found the punishment unfit
To leave behind a life
To leave everyone’s heart frostbit
To say it’s all right to lie
Trusting us with beautiful memories
Then, lying down to die

After the memories faded
The pictures his final word had engraved

“Goodbye”
He whispered for my ears only
As he let himself die

I really like this.

It just seemed really sentimental to me...it was nice.

A few of the stanzas were really kind of moving in a sense.

I cannot explain how this hurt for me to read today, but i fully understand for this is the 3 year anniversary of the death of my fiancee, who blessed me for a short time with his love and in teh same instant he was gone. this was very well written and filled me with emotions i wasn't expecting to feel,,

The title was impecable. The form staggered in a few places but you kept the same depth of emotion throughout the piece. This write made me reflect on nightmares that are begging to come true, personally for me. My best-friend/ex-lover is going away to the marines and I am terrified of what you express in this write. The jagged pain of breathing, with the knowledge that dying was an allowance of something that could have been avoidable. I am endlessly thankful to soldiers all over the world and people who are soldiers in their everyday lives but I am equally solemn about the loss that plagues love. This was an expressive piece that brought out a lot in your readers, even though it may have been our own trials, you captured the hearts of us and moved us through a journey. This is a tearful piece that will elegantly let memories lay down as gently as the lives that are lost.
