Insolence

Contributed by Bohemian_with_a_pen on Monday, 30th January 2006 @ 08:38:40 PM in AEST
Topic: Suicide

You taught me to disregard people
To be callous to those who got close
That dependence would always cause heartbreak
And the best type of avoidance was being morose
You can't rip me apart when I’m nothing
You can't break down what isn't whole
I can't bleed if I am drained empty
And your cold fingers can't melt my ice soul
My heart is a bullet that's tearing you open
You can't stand any life left in me
These charades have left me unfeeling
You've made me cut to make sure I still bleed
And when you hear that I worked up the courage
That the night came when I was compelled to fall
Will you collapse out of shock in your lounge room?
Will you bother to rise from your chair, at all?
Will the tears be from anger or sadness?
Feel guilty in foresight you didn't see,
Be indifferent to my sudden departure
Will you mourn, or be consoled that I’m free?
I died years before I was buried
I gave warning, but you hadn't a clue
My one last thankyou for making me nothing:
When I did it, I did it for you.

Perhaps it is the category that limits the number of readers/commentors here... I can think of no other reason for the lack of the same. To be honest, I'm not one to browse the suicide poetry category - I came here, actually, in a 'round about sort of way. It was your title and author's note that drew me in. It was the poem, though... that blew me away. This is by far the best poem I've read in this category. Excellently executed and incredibly strong. It is decidedly human and yet so very much your own. I'm considerably impressed.

You must keep writing --- it... well, it's just that simple.

I feel you. I may not get quite what I am feeling, but I get it.

Why did you want to write this? What were you thinking?

Beautiful!!!
