self-reflection

Walking, a man stumbles in a small puddle of water.
Falling, he closes his eyes, preparing himself for the impact of concrete and water.
But the concrete never comes, the water never comes.
He opens his eyes and finds himself behind his own reflection.
He wonders at this, and, stretching fingers forward to touch his inverted self,
notes the ripples in his hands.
Perplexed by this, he continues to reach, until finally his fingers touch the bearded face of his reflection.
Solidity. A glass wall crashing in on itself. A mirror.
These are his thoughts as he scrambles to control his breathing, searching his
mind for a plausible explanation.
As he searches the crowded corridors of his mind, he fails to notice the inflection of his voice slowly slipping away.
