Behind This Mask

Contributed by Drapes on Sunday, 29th January 2006 @ 06:33:04 PM in AEST
Topic: self-harmpoetry

Joking, happy, care-free, laughing.
This mask can only be worn so long.
With its removal
Out seeps the truth.
The dark, lavish, crimson truths
Courtesy the strip of metal.
Crying out so ferociously, but so hushed and tame.
The true emotions bubbling up inside.
At least they can be exposed
Through the thin slit in this solid crust.
The small crack,
A cerise crescent
Smiling at me - only it shares my secret.
In the early hours,
So moist and alive.
By mid-day it's hardened,
But still holds the power.
Eventually, the only remains
Are the scrawny, pale lines.
But they possess so much meaning.
Up and down, and back and front.
"Accidents" ...they believe me.
Such a quick, swift action releases all the
Pain, lies, secrets, and hate.
But with selves down, smile plastered,
Nobody has a clue.
Thank eternity for this reliable matter,
These real friends,
My Silent Tears.
