Don't Kill the Messenger

Contributed by Cancer on Monday, 27th January 2003 @ 06:20:00 AM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

i caressed his still bloody wings
and listened as he told me
most of what he had seen
he wouldn't come right out and say it
but, it was written all over his tiny face
it was almost over
over for me, therefore, over for him
he was weeping and who could blame him?
he had gone forward
and helplessly witnessed
the Destruction of his Keeper
and, therefore, his own violent Demise
he said to me:
"you know, i could've been an Angel
a being of infinite beauty
instead, i chose to be this
a butterfly
a messenger, a symbol
i could've been above this
pure...beyond the reach of Death
i could've been..."

i see now that all the things
i've come to love
it is too late to save
life in the past is no life at all
only memories revived by sorrow and regret
all that has already happened
has come back for a final dance
and as the last song fades, i'll wake alone
not in a bed
but back in my Black Garden
on my throne of *****
it has become almost meaningless
through the passage of time
as most things tend to do
i'll rot alone in the shadows of my mind
surrounded by pieces of you
i'll put them together
but it won't be the same
just overused memories
faded and lame
time will pass
and i'll lose my face
someone new will appear
to take my place
in the hearts of those
i held so close
all my fault
this is the path i chose
but, for now, i sob
with a Dead Butterfly
knowing that, soon
i too will Die

Dude I love this a lot of heartache and pain in this one. A lot of imagery. I just liked it all.
