Unto What Abode?

I don't want to lose you,
and I don't want to see you go...
I'm selfish, I know.
So wake me up if I hug you too hard,
and remind me if ever I might forget...
bring me back if I stare too long
and burn holes in your silhouette.
What is death but a transition,
though what is heaven but superstition?
And can I risk my love for you,
on a simple whim of intuition?
If you died tomorrow, would I ever see you again?
If there's another side, would you be there?
Would your soul live forever in the hands of a god,
or simply fade into thin air?
Would you live within my heart,
like some old faded photograph?
Or would your soul thrive just beyond
some heartless cement cenotaph?
Where would you go? And could I ever know,
that we just might meet again someday?
And if this life is all we have,
then please, with us, why won't you stay?

this piece encapsulates such beauty and innocence...man will always face a certain curiousity when experiencing saddening circumstances as such. Even in the absence of death, one struggles to fathom the inevitability of our mortality. It is too convoluted to grasp. Religion aids to comfort our souls, yet you have explored beyond such concepts. A very thought provoking piece.
I wish you all the best xx |

Very interesting piece. Man's constant desire is to know what happens after death. We all have some sort of idea. I truely believe the spirit lives on....the shell just dies. So though yes I still mourn love ones departed. I have much comfort in knowing someday we shall meet again. There was really a line in your write that caught me up....."bring me back if I stare too long and burn holes in your silouette" Beautiful. Peace to you, Laura |
