No more good bye’s as I leave for school. To you the world’s still asleep.
No more trips to the library to get hundreds of books. Now it’s run in, run out with a paperback or two.
No more little helper in the garden. You think I have better things to do.
No more “first day of school celebration.” You weren’t even at the bus stop.
No more “how was your day” conversations. You figure things are fine and leave it at that.
No more fast food or stops for ice cream. You say gas is too expensive.
No more board games, hangman, or tic-tac-toe. When I’m bored you tell me to go on the internet.
No more hour long big rides. We didn’t even ride to the parade or the Dream Cruise.
No more hours spent at Grandma’s house, but it’s not your fault Grandma’s gone.
No more homemade chocolate milk. Now you just pour it out of the carton.
No more lunch box notes. Or even a note on the table when I come home to an empty house.
No more years, no more months. No more weeks, no more days. No more time to be a kid.
