Far away I hear the call of my dear sweet Lord
Everything I hear from him, said without a word
How I have been chosen, tested I will be
Working in such squallor, and insanity
Screaming out pure horror, echo's in the dark
In this place of evil, dirty, dank and stark
Smell of rotting bodies, open sores and wounds
Brave men lie there dying in their bed, their tombs
Frightened fingers grab me, want to hold my hand
Talk to me of loved ones and their lost homeland
Comfort for the fearful, wiping fevered brow
How can I be hopeful? God will show me how
Fear and despiration, cloud, distort the minds
Of my lonely soldiers, hope they cease to find
I must find the hidden light, guide them ,show them how
Gather up my inner strength, time to act is now
Lighting up my lantern, glowing in the gloom
Beam of hope is warming, lifting fear and doom
Helping of the helpless, I will play my part
Giving of my life and soul but most of all my heart
