Boogey-man
Boogey-man,
you chuckle...
...you best be aware,
dare you not smile,
or snicker,
take care,
lest there come the day
the past from which you flee
wraps itself about your heart,
immobilizes your soul,
paralyzes your spirit,
obliterates your sun,
thrusting terror,
deep,
deep,
deep,
in,
about,
and through,
all that is
you.
Boogey-man,
you chuckle...
…aw,
beware…

...the Boogey-man represents such a significant psychological entity that I feel it is worth the risk of adding what I hope will be a brief addendum…the Boogey-man is a childhood terror…whether in the closet, the basement, the attic, or under the bed, children throughout the ages have allowed the Boogey-man to keep them in bed, avoid the basement, the attic, the closet…those fears were allowed to determine their childhood paths…our attachment years experience [pre-natal to 3 years of age] pretty much spells out how we view the world around us and how we are going to interact in that world…for those of you with an acceptable degree of mental illness, the attachment years experience has essentially produced a safe warmth of feeling somewhat equivalent to a doting grandpa's lap…for the rest of us, the attachment years experience has created a Boogey-man that scares the brown stuff out of us…our emotional development has frozen at various stages of early childhood…we talk like adults, look like adults, work at adult jobs, heck, we're allowed to drive cars, we must be adults, but we aren't…emotionally, we are children…frightened children controlled by the accumulation of those terrifying, agonizing, paralyzing attachment years experience…this Boogey-man destroys lives…this Boogey-man is no laughing matter…this psychological Boogey-man makes forty-nine year olds afraid to do things any healthy adult would have no problem doing...he causes fifty-four year olds to see danger where no healthy adult would see danger...affected adults deal with life as if they were frightened children, because, that is what they are...[...and we're the majority down here, so be careful what you say...a little comic relief...]

I like the poem a lot. The format is unique; and adds to the depth and power of the poem. The explanation is very insightful and informative. You could probably write a good short story related to the dynamics you depict here. I like the title as well.
Good job,

This is an awesome write.
I once read in a psycology book along the way, to think about our world leaders in this light and to imagene if they were all grown up inside to imagene what our world would be like.
Still mezmerized with your work.
huggs,

I grew up with the threats of the Boogey-man and continued to use that invisible unknown creature to keep the children out of potentially harmful dangerous places...so he must still be around. A good piece, written well. |
