Dear Mother, I Am Me, Not You

Contributed by LifeFadingAway on Monday, 16th January 2006 @ 06:23:53 AM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

Dear mother

Look at me now
Do you really think I've changed
Maybe I did
But not the way you wanted

You want me to be the innocent girl
You want me to fit into this world
You want me to be like them
I want you to understand

I'm not the little girl I was
Maybe I'm still young enough
To make me believe a different truth
But that's not something you're supposed to do

Dear mother
Look at me now
The changes I made in my life
Open your eyes
Stop telling yourslef all those lies

Look at world like I do for a while
That's the reason why I rarely smile
It's not like you expect it to be
Your time was different, please believe

Your decission changed who I am
Who I want to become
But I won't turn into a brainless puppet
Like everyone in this town

Dear mother

Look at me now
Can you even hear me scream
I ask for understanding
Not for love or all the things they say I need

Is the real me invisible to you
Do you really think
That when I am some older
I would prefectly fit in

I want to live this life
Do everything before I die
But what you decide
Makes me waste my time
