The Pub

Waiting for my girlfriend in the pub crowd before Five/
A glass of wine or two just too remind us we’re alive/
And a gentlemen sits down across from me and proposes/
I laugh at he in his tux and serious demeanor, surprised I’m only slightly uncomfortable at the gesture.

And do the angels sense I’m open because you’ve taken up my soul/
And how can I express to God that from my fingers to my toes/
I’m alive and miserable and euphoric all in one/
And darling can’t you see the kind of trouble that you’ve done…

And my girlfriend arrives and says he’s probably a prince or something/
‘Cause yesterday was a birthday attended by a hundred queens/
And I tell her that she’s gullible, after all the lack of security and all
And I’m sure they’d have security if it were really a Queen’s birthday ball…
(wouldn’t they?)

And don’t they see I’m open now because you’ve taken up my soul/
And do express to Earth that from my fingers to my toes/
I’m alive and miserable and euphoric all in one/
And sweetheart can’t you see the kind of mischief that you’ve done…

And she says she met a Frenchmen last night at party who told her all about it/
And I insist he’s been pulling her leg, and even if he wasn’t/
I’d just be a member of a harem or some royal band of followers/
‘Cause Lord knows how many true monarchies still exist today, anyway….

And can’t you see I’m open now because you’ve taken up my soul/
And how do I express to you that from my fingers to my toes/
I feel alive and miserable and euphoric when I pause/
And Lover can’t you see the change within,
and you’re the cause…

I think about my boss who says to laugh and make it worse/
When suspicion/rumors so upset you till you burst/
He said I could have a ‘stable’ and I should so suggest/
And watch the shock grow across their faces,
Give my defenses a rest/

Oh I know I’m open now because you’ve stolen away my soul/
And I express in every breath how from my fingers to my toes/
I feel adrift and sexy, excited and even quite turned in sleep/
And yes, you are the reason that I’ve fallen in so deep…..

Hey You! :)
I'm glad to see you haven't given up on poetry yet. Cute story! "He said I could have a ‘stable’" - As well you could, sweetie. heh
This was very cute - and very sweet as well. It was a surprise to see something from you after so long and I just had to log in and give you a hug.

I don't understand the use of the forward slash.

Other than that, this has a nice sequence of events and great story. Sounds also that it could be a song.

Thanks,

Tim
