I Must Ask Why
…wounded spirits,
soaring naked,
bleeding,
against a noontime burnt sienna sky…
…curious toddlers,
innocent children,
placed atop a mile-high mesa;
they crawl,
they wander,
they fall
one by one by one,
and I ask why,
I ask,
why…
…if it's Love that's offered,
why do they run away…
…if it's warm and safe by your fireside,
why do they choose to freeze…
…your simple answers,
they don't satisfy,
I must ask,
why,
I ask,
why…
…and yet,
I believe,
in a reality I cannot see…
I feel it in my spirit like a maddened wind…
Civilizations,
they ebb and flow,
consumed with knowledge,
but starved for wisdom…
…they rise in conquest,
and fall enslaved,
and I ask,
why,
why is it always this way…
I ask.
why,
why must it be this way…
Human spirits,
like galaxies madly spinning,
unknown destinies,
but a purpose
guided by intelligent fractilian equations
beyond my comprehension,
still,
I ask,
why…
I'm a driven man,
so I ask,
why…
I must understand,
so I ask,
why…
I ask,
why…
I must ask,
why…

I like much about this piece - from its strong opening to its keen observations and thought provoking ponderings. The lines above, though... were the most impactful for me. I couldn't move past them on the initial read --- I came to a stop there and read them over and over. Both in and out of context --- they hit home.
I absolutely concur with Jarred's comments. I'm very glad I didn't miss this. Well done, Ron!

You know, the few poems I've read by you are quite inspiring.
They have made me think of things I've put little thought to.
Your words also seem to have so much insight and wisdom to this mysterious world
we call our home.
Why are you so good at this? Why, I ask, why, I must ask!!! Great write. |
