Mad Summer (the rain that mountains bring)

Upon entering trodden forest's green upheaval,
red and yellow leaves coloring the spring;
we, hand in hand, found mad summer's swift retrieval,
Sipping at clear waters sting.
We kissed with roaring rivers kiss,
and felt the rain that mountains bring.
We pressed and coupled clean, fearing the black abyss
of night cast down from heavens measure.
What strange, immortal beings hide beneath this bliss
of love and mortal pleasure?
What hidden creatures, lost in our delight,
watch our sweet, sweet love, and advance with hellish leisure?
None, but the shadow, creeping shadow finding sight;
swift desirer's blind and open sight swallowing the world.
None, but the endless canopies of night.
