That’s it
We’re through
Can I say I’m sorry I ever laid eyes on you?
Or is that too cliché?
It doesn’t matter anyway
You can’t read these words
Or know what I say
Or how you hurt me that day
You left me waiting at the window
Thinking that eventually you’d show
But you never did
Nor did you call
To say you wouldn’t be coming at all
I sat that night on my bed and cried
Thinking about how hard I tried
To keep us going and in one night
You took out of me the fight
That kept me hoping these seven years
Through the absences, and tears
That one day you’d love me
How is it I, who am normally smart
Will ignore my head and follow my heart
When it only leads me to write
Poetry like this, so overdone and trite
So, to those who read, I won’t go on
Just one more thought and then I’m gone:
How foolish I was to assume
That in your heart there was room
For another, and now I know
Darling boy, I let you go
