The Moon Belt

Desolate landscapes
Bare leafless skeletons
Taunting the sun to return.
Barren, rock hard earth,
Conspiring against the blanket of sleep.
Is there a vulture in every sparrow,
Searching for bread crumbs of flesh?
Is there a yearning in the heart of every man,
To reside in the damp, cold, grips
Of winter's bittersweet depth?
The forests crackle their restless conspiracies..
Old carburetors wheeze to awaken.
Top secret streams run undercover
Daring a fool to find their weaknesses.
Do the winds know that if they blow hard enough
That they can have the land to themselves?
They do.
Yet they know there must be
More than their existence.
Still, a hollow muttering threads through the meadows.
The tightening of the moon belt.

Nice. I really liked this part:
"Is there a vulture in every sparrow,
Searching for bread crumbs of flesh?
Is there a yearning in the heart of every man,
To reside in the damp, cold, grips
Of winter's bittersweet depth?"
Great job! |

Very abstract, nicely done.
The second and forth stanzas are particularly good. |

Don't know what the tightening of the moonbelt is but I don't need to fully understand a poem to like it and I certainly liked this one. |
