Should Christ come only by invitation:
The Apostle would have remained a Pharasee, (Acts 9:3&4)
The deciples would have continued at sea, (John 15:16)
Jeremiah, a prophet, would not be, (Jere. 1:5)
Natural man would always think naturally. (1Cor. 2:14)
If man must LET the Lord in:
Abraham would have stayed in Chaldee, (Gen. 12:1-4)
Gomer would not have been set free, (Hosea 3:1-3)
An army, the dry bones, would not be, (Ezek. 37:5-10)
The carnel mind would remain at enmity. (Rom. 8:7)
If man's "free will" can accept or reject Christ:
The new birth would be unnecessary, (John 3:3)
Free grace would become secondary, (Ephes. 2:8)
The creature could claim an honorary, (Ephes. 2:9)
And salvation might only be temporary. (Heb. 7:25&John 6:29(

Interesting post Lionel
The poem I assume is a defence of Calvinist doctrine
Long time ago now but I do remember there were heated debates betwen Calvinist and Armenians which I think was the alternative point of view
There was a summary of what the Calvinists beliefs in the expression
Total Depravity
U
Limited Atonment
I
Preservation of the Saints
Sadly I can't remember other 2! |

Oh Sionel this is a very interesting post. The previous commenter found that too intriguing.
I realize that the scriptures can be read on different levels. I read them from my level but I am aware that many are granted the grace to read them differently.
What r eally matters is to believe and trust in the boundless mercy of God, even if scripture is often inexplicable, and who would dare to be so presumptuous to assert he knows it all.
All the authors wrote for their time, even Jesus spoke to be understood by the people of His time. - and left it to the Spirit to reveal with the ripening of m ankind.
St. Paul had his own evolution.
I know that God will find a way to let Himself be found by the most illiterate and wretched man.
Otherwsie, all those destined to be born in the "fullness ;of time" would have immense advantage over those that were "destined" to walk the ea rth in times of darkness.
Thank about it.. Every Christian ought to think hard about it.

Now this is different!
At the moment i'm trying to memorize Corinthians 13 I'm getting there slowly but surely!
I love the format of this piece and you've given me plenty to look up!
I'm going to have to copy and paste this.
