A Self-Consuming Fire

Your emerald orbs
Burn with desire.
I see in them
Your inner fire.
You hide it from most,
But not from me-
For you exposed it all,
Under the tree.
The tree with a face,
The tree with a name-
It will never be the same.
At last, I saw your grace.
For the memory of that one night
Will burn in me-
A fire's delight.
And all too soon,
I will be nothing more
Than a pile of ashes,
Scattered across the floor.
You will gaze at the pile,
With your opulent orbs,
And not blink once,
As you do your chore.
You tidy the mess,
And shed a single tear.
For you you know the truth-
You know you lit the match.

Good write, I really like this part:
'And all too soon,
I will be nothing more
Than a pile of ashes,
Scattered across the floor' |
