This Is My Darkness Then

Contributed by Nazmythian on Saturday, 7th January 2006 @ 06:13:53 PM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

It began with the opening of a door...

The courage of the Poet is to keep ajar the door that leads into madness.
Author: Christopher Morley

... then the closing of a door ...

Poetry is the opening and closing of a door, leaving those who look through to guess what is seen during a moment.
Author: Carl Sandburg

... and concluded with a realization ...

The true poem is the poet's mind.
Author: Ralph Waldo Emerson

... in all the journey took less than twenty minutes and I was left with this ...

This Is My Darkness Then

I open the door
To the demons within
[ this is my darkness then ]

I thrust out my lantern
And offer them light
[ burning, brilliant, bright ]

What becomes of a man
Who would keep them at bay?
[ hearing the words, but not what they say ]

The lantern goes out
And I pull the door closed
[ what did you see … that you recall most? ]

I watched as they scuttled
Away from the flame
[ movement poetic by all but in name ]

Therein the truth lies
Contradictory term
[ proof that existence has now been confirmed ]

This is MY darkness then ~

Reading this the mind boggles. Keep those demons away Naz they can become haunting and very destructive. I remember the times when I too wrote this kind of poetry, then gave it up for more homely subjects it eased my mind. bern

Hmmm, knowing you as I do..I don't quite know what to make of this.

However, it does make me think, I keep switching back and forth between your poem and the quotes, and I'm trying to see what you see here...

I like this, Scott, it seems like...I dunno...a search, maybe?

Anyway, good write, I think I'll think a little more.

*hugs*

Amazing. It flowed so well, so... softly. A pleasure to read.
Take care.
