My maddening descent

Contributed by crow6279 on Friday, 6th January 2006 @ 01:59:26 AM in AEST
Topic: anguished

***************************************************

I feel myself twisting...spinning...falling
into this maddening descent
I hear my voice screaming...echoing
bouncing back at me with vengeance

Nothing to stop me...nothing to grab hold of
a quick glance above gives no solace
Cold air rising from the fiery pit
my frozen blood churning in a frenzied boil

And still I fall...memories of mistakes flashing by
good times taken for granted...expected
Kind words never acknowledged...forgotten
pain and agony fueling my rapid plunge

The shaft is narrowing...compressing...clutching
peeling the skin from my bones...shedding
Exposing my true self...to myself
as I look inside and see nothing

Voices in my head...melding with my own
laughter and wailing in a sweet chorus
Confusion meets cohesion in a furious tumult
the clamor is somehow comforting

No more light from above me...extinguished
my legacy dimming with every ragged breath
Darkness surrounds my thoughts...consuming
feeding on the bitter bleakness of my soul

A sudden burst of amber...redemption denied
another false hope quashed...crushed
Vanquished like dreams never dreamt
the sins I had yet to commit...sporadic euphoria

The bottomlands beckon my arrival...enticing
others there awaiting...fervid anticipation
My journey expected...ordained...foretold
sanity impaled on spikes of remorse

And still the endless falling...reality abated
apprehension and fear for amusement
Feeling the tears of blind eyes wet my lips
sustaining my maddening descent
