I Used To Be

I Used To Be
~~~~
I used to be her dream
Her Prince in shining armor
I used to be the one
To make her world calmer
I used to bring a smile
I used to dry her tears
I used to have the magic
For o’ so many years
I used to be the one
Whose kiss lit a flame
The one who’s passion
Changed your last name
The keeper of your heart
The lover in your bed
The owner of your daydreams
That circled in your head
I used to be the sunset
That brightly lit your sky
But sadly through the years
How quickly time did fly
What used to be so new
Has become an old comfortable sweater
That sometimes we put on
With the changing of the weather
Gone are the thrills
The flutters of the heart
The red hot romance
We had in the start
Gone are the tomorrows
That used to be so new
Gone is the passion
That used to be so true
Though the climax has been reached
A new life has begun
A content little world
That revolves around our son
Yet somewhere in my heart
I long to go back
Many years ago
When our romance was on track
When I used to be your dream
Your Prince in shining armor
Back when I was the one
That made her world calmer
The lighter of your flame
The keeper of your heart
The passion in your eyes
Your world, the biggest part
The one you missed like crazy
When I wasn’t by your side
The one you chose so freely
To share life’s sloppy ride
The holder of your hand
Your chased companion for life
The person I used to be
When you became my wife
I love it! As parents of four, my DH and I both long to be able to turn back the romance clock at times. At other times, we wouldn't trade it for the world.
Thanks Jeff! I always look for your poetry when I'm on here.
Turn Turn Turn--the world continues to move on even though relationships change along the way--it doesn't always mean separation--just a deeper, not always easy to understand relationship. We need to just remember who we fell in love with and continue to hold on tight! Time changes people--but God holds us together--IF we just let Him!
