I know the tears are real,
But they're hiding in my eyes,
Or maybe they're in my laughter,
Lost in a clever disguise.
I'm painted up in colours,
Though they're muting over time,
And this smile is still there, frozen,
Though the tears are all still mine.
So with a shawl around my shoulders,
And a cage around my heart,
I'll laugh at this reflection,
Until I believe this work of art,
Then still gazing in the mirror,
I'll watch my features die,
The paint is hard and cracking,
Except for the tear that's in my eye.
I'm little more than a shadow,
With feeling trapped inside,
Forever frozen in an image,
In this glass portrait I abide.

Awe Phyllis *huggles* I'm sorry you're feeling that way again.
You know we love you and are always there to listen. You don't need to hide your tears from us. We recognize that you're human and need to be able to show emotions too.
Wonderful write hunni!
Love always,
~Kiela~ |

Oh hunni!! *tears well up in eyes*
This is BRILLIANT !! A truly outstanding write. Sweetie, you've captured such
tremendous emotion of heart and your word choice is simply flawless.
It still brings tears to my eyes. As much the tenth time reading it as
the first. It's forlorn. It's beautiful. It's real!
Believe me when I say, I wish I had written this.
A masterpiece of art sweetie. Gosh! I just can't say enough !!

* gentle squeezies ... so as not to shatter glass *
Phil, beneath any paint or adornment ... a poet will still find beauty. Too many of them are there here, that will see the truth behind your words ... you are a beautiful person and there is no way you can hope to dsguise that fact from us. You don't have to smile to be beautiful, though I hear it can increase your face value ... ( poor attempt at humor ... that )

Wow...Phil. this is so intricate.
Either I have destroyed too many brain cells this xmas or this piece really seems much more convoluted than you might think?
There, beneath your words a multitude of dimensions live.
Such beautiful imagery.
This piece is so, utterly heart breaking.
Beautiful.
I am in true awe. |

Your expression here is wonderful, Philly. It's quite touching... but I, personally, wouldn't call it heartbreaking or terribly sad. Honesty, awareness, expression... these are good things, obviously -- difficult sometimes, sure, but they are stepping stones to somewhere better, I believe. In a funny sort of way, then, I see this as a positive write. (And I truly don't mean to dismiss your words here... or the feelings behind them... I suppose, I'm just opting to see them as point on a line - considering the past and feeling hopeful about the future.)
Oh and Philly... there are a lot of poets that exist (or existed for a while) beneath glass... some never manage to shatter it --- ah but, some do, Philly. And you... you will.... writes like this make me feel certain of that.
Beautifully penned, hun.

Wonderfully expressed write, and deeply emotive. Your poems are always inspiring to read, and your honesty is refreshing, to people like me who can't always come out and say what I want. Well done here Phil, and remember; as long as you can write it out, half the battle is won...
