Mine Eyes Close

Mine eyes close.

Pain is all I see, flashing red before me.

Sitting there, hidden behind your looks, your shrugs.

They tell me much more than your voice.

Speak, speak, for fear of your existence.

“Better slip with foot than tongue” you repeat.

Speak, speak, for a man of few words is a man of few glances.

Would your silence extinct you?

Crowding you, pushing you, jabbing you,

You belong to them, their own.

Speak, speak, for your silence is their circus.

Dripping in red, swimming in scarlet, pain envelops you.

Shields you, covers you, you hide behind the steady drip-drip.

Concealing the crimson-coloured screen with your shrugs.

Layers cover you, but which is real?

Speak, speak, for you are hidden deep,

Beneath the barricade you have made.

They fight for you, forgetting what they fight for.

You are theirs, to mould, to own.

Belonging you know of, and not.

Speak, speak, for your voice is fading.

You are their hero, their entertainment, their possession.

Their limelight is yours,

Though for their shadows you long.

Behind the shrugs I see your red pain,

Your red tears.

For mine eyes may close, they do open once more.

Speak, speak, for I listen in anguish.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
