Winter Glade

I look to the sky and see,
Something ever so faintly.
Is it a wisp of something greater?
What could be contained,
Yet be any fainter?
My hopes and dreams fade,
Sitting here in winter glade,
But I am not left with naught,
I still have me, myself and I,
And no ill was ever wrought.
I have let go completely,
Let the air out of my lungs,
Watched air escape so sweetly.
Memories hold no future power,
It all fell out of my mind,
Like a calm summer shower.
And calm is what I am,
Sitting here with the future behind me,
And the past one giant sham.
I know that resilience is gain,
But why should I go through all this pain?
A man can be tough all he wants,
But the sham that once was,
Hangs behind him and haunts.
