O, Heart of Mine

Thinking now of us
Comparing now to then
All the words I used to hear
'Bout how it might have been
The tears that I once cried
All the while we were apart
The feelings I still had
A bearing on my heart
Now we're together once again.
The tears have been withdrawn,
And this feeling is so new to me,
Though at once 'twas just as strong.
But bolder now it just might be.
Impossible as it may have seemed,
A kiss from you is all it takes,
The joy that filled me, hence redeemed.
A certain emotion though burns new,
One not present the time before:
A longing, a needing, a passion true
To know you better, to know you more.
I love that your patience
With me still rests;
That you'll not have me do
What my heart doth protest.
But protest now,
O, Heart of mine!
And let me love
To call love thine.
