Christmas Day

Holiday Poetry

It’s that time again Christmas is near,
It seems harder to find the holiday cheer.
The hustle and bustle and Christmas tree,
Whatever happened to gifts that are free?
We search far and wide at whatever the cost,
For things that soon become broken or lost.
A favorite gift may be placed in a drawer,
Made by a child, not bought at the store.
My mother’s eyes each year still gleam,
At that homemade tree bark nativity scene.
We search for the best and all things nice,
And forget who paid the ultimate price.
Christ was born on Christmas day,
To provide an example and show us the way.
He did not choose for whom he cared,
His endless love with the world was shared.
How many each year share a good deed,
Or show compassion for someone in need?
To give something now most have learned,
That surely something shall come in return.
Its now to the point that many pretend,
And won’t mention Jesus, it may offend.
On the news today in some other state,
The school demanded white holiday plates.
We take it in stride, as things seem good,
But know at my house it’s understood,
A King was born and Oh by the way
We will celebrate “Christmas Day”
